“He is Risen” is such a weird sentence when you really think about it.
Surely we mean that Christ was Resurrected two thousand years ago,
right? And yet, that isn’t what we sing on Easter Morning. Instead,
we sing “Christ The Lord IS Risen Today!” It’s like how, on Christmas Eve, we declare the child being born as if it just happened, as if we were celebrating a BIRTH, rather than a birthday.
But we do not celebrate a God who acted thousands of years ago,
but is silent today. We do not read dusty scripture that once spoke truth but has been closed for so long as to be irrelevant. The God we worship is active in our lives NOW. The scripture we read speaks new truths to us even today.
When Christ was resurrected from the dead, he did not then live ten more years or so and then die again, like Lazarus. He was raised, and then Ascended. He lives for us, watches us, prays for us. Christ our Lord IS Risen. Today!
