A record-setting warm February is almost over, and I find myself a bit gloomy. Now, there are other reasons for this as well, but the weather certainly hasn’t helped.
Wisconsinites are, of course, eternal optimists when it comes to the weather. Nothing ever seems to keep you a lot indoors and it’s something I’ve always admired as an outsider, even if I don’t always share it. With each warmer than expected day people would come in and say; “Well hey, this warm weather sure is nice, huh?”
For me though, it wasn’t really. Because while it was WARMer… it wasn’t actually warm. The weather yo-yoed around freezing in a way that prevented snow but didn’t allow green, and so in absence of beautiful snowscapes we just had a month of blah brown.
In the scriptures, Christ says that he doesn’t want people to be lukewarm. He wants people hot or cold. Before this past February, I don’t know that I ever fully appreciated that lesson.
We’ve got a lot going on in the church this year, opportunities for worship and integration in the life of the church. I’m pretty excited about all of them, and I’d like to encourage you all to be the same way. Find your excitement, find your passion, and live into it hard.
This Easter, celebrate with the energy of a hot Summer Day or a frigid Winter Blizzard. Don’t be the middlingly warm February.
